Weekend Rewind (yes, on Hump Day!)

Well, I would love to sit here and tell you that I feel all caught up & that things are just going so incredibly smoothly around here...but as is probably quite obvious from my weekend post appearing on a Wednesday, things have been a little bit crazy around here.

I'm not really sure if any picture could say it better than this...
Sitting in the car at Dairy Queen...not happy!
I think the easiest way to describe it is that we've been just been in a bit of a funk around here.  Call it teething, a growth spurt, a good ole' fashioned cold, a sleep transition...whatever you want to call it, but we've been in a funk.  However, that hasn't kept us from having lots of good times...just lots of sleepy good times!  ha!

Friday night we headed to Springfield for a fancy dinner of Chick-fil-A and to run some errands at Target.  Our Target trip further confirmed my reasoning of not going to Target alone...I need an accountability partner to get out of there without buying way more than I should!  Thankfully Hubby was right behind me pushing me along to only the things on my list!  Elyse was more than ready to be home and we quickly fed her & put her to bed...only to see practically EVERY single hour on the clock that night.

Saturday Hubby had a golf tournament & it was my Saturday to work, so I took my nocturnal child & dropper her off with Gigi while I worked until noon.  I spent the rest of the afternoon with my parents' as well & we headed over to a local greenhouse to pick up some finishing touches for our flower beds.  Our darling child went into meltdown mode as we were leaving...someone was seriously OVERTIRED!!!  Thankfully she woke up from her nap a new woman & we had a fun late afternoon & evening!
Our "Little Toot"--her daddy's nickname for her, & I'm afraid it might stick, at least until she can argue with us!

Seriously, how can I be mad at this face?!?
Saturday night I hosted my parents, grandparents, aunt & uncle, & my cousin &  his girlfriend for cake & ice cream to celebrate my mom's birthday.  It was a low-key celebration but a fun way to honor my beautiful momma!  I made delicious strawberry cake with strawberry icing & it was OH so yummy!
Make a wish Gigi!
Sunday was another big day for us...Elyse's Baby Dedication.  We failed to get very many good pics because the lighting was doing some weird things to my camera, but these will work for now.  She was a perfect angel & we were honored to have my parents in attendance with us.
All dressed up for my big day!

Our best family photo from the stage...
Promising to raise Elyse in a Godly home, to pray for her & her desires, to teach her the word of God, & to love her unconditionally...(my paraphrase)

It was a really nice dedication & Elyse even got her very own "little pink Bible."  The message couldn't have been more perfectly directed towards Nick & I as we were quickly reminded that while our children are not our own, we still have the responsibility of showing them how to follow Jesus & to serve others.  I think one of the things I'll remember most was a quote from Gigi Graham that said something like this:

"You can't take anything to heaven, not your bank account, your car, your job, etc...but you can take your children."

What a profound statement, and what a huge responsibility we have as parents to raise our children to love God & serve Him as they have only been given to us on loan for a little while...for our children truly belong to Him.
